Sherwood State School Priorities: Intellectual Rigour and Differentiation
High Order Thinking is explicitly taught in all classrooms from Prep to Year 7. High-order thinking processes include comparing, evaluating, designing and analysing. Teaching children how to use these processes to solve problems is a powerful intellectual advantage. This year we have introduced a Thinking Skills Program across Prep to Year 7 and Ms Haslett is working in classrooms for two days each week to help teachers implement this initiative.
Differentiation is our second priority. All of our Sherwood teachers are adjusting their lessons and units of work to cater for the wide range of student abilities, learning styles and interests. In each of our classrooms teachers are using pre-assessment tools to gauge student knowledge and then planning to cater for these differences. There are opportunities for the class to work together as a whole, in small groups and for individuals to work independently according to their needs and abilities. Increasingly our students are able to work across classes in ‘like need’ groups. Ms Hayler, Ms Haslett and Ms Casperson are all supporting teachers to help ensure this is done effectively. |

SHERWOOD STATE SCHOOL FETE 2012 |
What a fantastic Fete. A super special THANK YOU to our hard working Fete Committee: Murray Adams, Joanna Allen, Lisa Bellamy Wells, Kim Crane, Katrina Partridge, Margie Loveday, Liza Peapell, Dominic Smyth and Yasmin Went. They have been tireless, dedicated and very clever in helping coordinate a wonderful community event. Thank you also to everyone who helped to bring the day together so well. A special thanks to all the Convenors for 2012 for their wonderful efforts on Fete day and all the preparation leading up to the day. Below is a list of the Convenors – again, a huge thanks for making the day such a success.
