IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS FROM SHERWOOD STATE SCHOOL P & C
The Sherwood State School P & C is very concerned about the impact that the proposed BCC Bus Depot would have on the school, our local community and surrounding roads. Here are some important facts for you to know and what you can do to have your say:
What is it?
- The BCC is proposing to develop the old warehouse site at 496 Sherwood Road into a Bus Depot, which would house up to 200 buses.
- The site would operate between the hours of 4am-midnight, 7 days/week.
What will the impact be?
- The proposed 708 bus movements daily over a 20-hour day will exponentially increase traffic in already highly congested roads.
- The proposed site will increase risks for school children from traffic and pollution. Concentration of increased level of airborne pollutants in a low-lying area – increase in sore eyes & throats; headaches; respiratory problems.
- Environmental impact to nearby Oxley Common & Oxley Creek.
Why is the P & C concerned? The Council does not seem to be listening to the concerns of the community. We need your help to let the Council know that the proposed site is inappropriate.
What can we do? |
