* Site capacity (eg number of classrooms, playspace and available resources);
* Impact on nearby schools; and
* Data from Facilities Services Branch.

NB - If you are interested in enrolling a child at Sherwood State School, please contact the school administration area.

Enrolment capacity of school

The school has the capacity to enrol up to 440 students.

Admissions Policy

All students in Years 1 – 7 who reside within the local catchment area have a right to enrol. Applicants must include evidence of age. Proof of residency is required (eg Rates notice/Electricity Account). For children born outside of Australia, proof such as Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residence status or eligibility under a Visa Category is required.

This may require places to be held for students who relocate to within the catchment boundary throughout the school year.

Siblings of students, who were enrolled at the school in 2000, when the Enrolment Management Plan was implemented, have the right to enrol while their siblings are still attending the school.

Students who move to an area outside the catchment boundary but lived in the local catchment area at the time of enrolment can continue to be enrolled. Siblings of these students will be considered for admission in accordance with the admissions criteria in the school’s enrolment management plan.

Enrolment of students from outside the local catchment area will be managed to ensure that the total current and forecast enrolments do not exceed the school’s current built capacity and, where applicable, will ensure there is an even spread of students across year levels or class groupings.

The school’s enrolment management plan does not replace other departmental policy, for example, School Disciplinary Absences, Preschool and Early Education, Class Management, nor does it override subsequent determinations regarding built school capacity.

Admissions Criteria

Where there is spare capacity, students will be enrolled based on the following criteria and order of priority:

1. Students residing within the boundary will be enrolled.
2. Siblings of students already enrolled and living outside the guaranteed enrolment boundary will be enrolled.
3. Students whose parent or legal guardian is employed by the school will be enrolled.
4. Students who reside outside the enrolment boundary and who officially leave the school will be considered for re-admission in accordance with the admissions criteria.
5. Students who reside outside the school’s enrolment boundary who apply for enrolment at the school will be put on a waiting list in order of receipt of application.

Acceptance and notification processes

Applications for admission into Years 1 – 7 will be accepted each year from the beginning of Term 3, with enrolment to commence from the beginning of Term 1 the following year.

Applications will remain current only for the year of submission.

If an admissions criterion is based on a waiting list, applications will be recorded in order of receipt.

Review

All enrolment applications will be considered on merit in accordance with the admissions criteria.

Parents wishing to have an unsuccessful enrolment application reviewed may seek clarification from the principal. Parents may provide a written submission seeking a review of an unsuccessful enrolment application. This submission should present evidence to substantiate a claim that the stated criteria have not been applied fairly and equitably.

The Enrolment Management Committee will review written submissions and the reply should be in writing within 14 days of submission. The Enrolment Management Committee will comprise, one parent representative from the P&C, a staff representative and a delegate for the Executive Director (Schools).

Further appeal should be directed to the Executive Director (Schools) whose decision will be final.
