Sherwood State School is over 140 years old, and our school buildings are very much in keeping with the heritage character of our local area. However, a surprise behind the heritage exteriors are modern computers and internet connections in all classrooms. All classroom are air-conditioned to the highest Australian Government Standards. In 2008 electronic whiteboards were installed in a number of classrooms and the library. The school grounds are large, and encourage a diverse range of sports and play. There are also generous undercover play and eating areas. ![]() Sports facilities include: * Pool * Cricket Oval * Tennis and Basket Ball Courts * Grassed Netball Courts and * Soccer Fields Children also love to play handball on the expansive old parade area. Wonderful sandstone terraces separate the athletics and cricket oval from the school buildings, and on athletics days these provide a great vantage point for students and parents. A Nature Area adjoins the school pool, and is used regularly by students, especially for the longstanding Friends of the Nature Area (FONA) Club. A large heritage style Hall, complete with a wide veranda and polished timber floors, is an important assembly area for school activities, as well as before and after school care and many community based events. ![]() Our Library was extended and refurbished by the Parents and Citizens Association in 2004, and includes many computers to access the latest information. It is also very well stocked with great student literature. This facility is also fully air conditioned thank you to the generous donation of the Siganto family. The music program is remarkable, and is resourced with instruments not found in many schools – timpani, French horns, tenor saxes, bass clarinet and double bass for example, as well as many of the more traditional instruments supporting an exceptional instrumental music program. (To learn more visit Our Curriculum tab). The music room is also well-stocked to provide students with the resources to build an appreciation of music. All classrooms have multiple internet connections and modern computers. The school wide strategy is to embed computer studies with everyday learning –students and teachers using computers to access and analyse information, and effectively organise and present information. New Prep Buildings ![]() The inaugural Prep Year began in 2007 and the air-conditioned facilities that were built at Sherwood are fantastic. The facilities include easy access to toilets, generous play areas and undercover eating areas, as well as large, modern classrooms. |
