Robotics Club

Sherwood State School provides extensive opportunities for students to become involved in the world of robotics. The education and training of engineering and programing through robotics has become a highlight of our extra curricula program.

Sherwood State School has achieved outstanding results in robotics since the students began to compete within globally recognised tournaments such as the First Lego League (FLL) held at the Queensland University of Technology. Most importantly, through the merits of the Sherwood State School robotics club, the team earned a place in the FLL Nationals Tournament held in Sydney.

Achievements include:

2012 – Inspiration Award at the FLL Tournament

2013 – Mechanics design Award at the FLL Tournament

2013 – Acceptance to compete in the FLL Nationals Tournament

2014 - Innovation Award to the FLL Tournament

Our robotics club are planning to expand their participation in the RoboCup Junior Queensland tournament at UQ in the near future.

2013 was another milestone for Robotics. There were increased student numbers within trials for the Robotics club and more teachers are jumping on board to be a part of the robotics world. Sherwood expanded their ever growing robotics resources with a further two new Mindstorms 2.0 kits. We are currently investigating the new EV3 Mindstorms kits for purchase.

2014 was a huge success for Sherwood Robotics. The school entered two robotic teams in the FLL Tournament at QUT once again. Both teams achieveing success with team 1 earning the Innovation Award and team 2 earning the encouragement award for Innovation. Well done to both teams.

The robotics program will operate every 2nd year to coincide with the Opti-Minds program.

Robotics has shifted direction for 2016 and Sherwood will be hosting its very own competition for years 3 - 6. The competition will be held in week 5 of the term and will host four teams which include one team per grade.
