Gifted students

Sherwood State School GEM (Gifted Education Mentor)

A Gifted Education Mentor (GEM) provides support for teachers within the school and also caters for high-achieving students by providing opportunities to both enhance and extend their learning.

Plans for ‘Advanced Learners’ in 2016 are currently underway.

Thinking Challenges

Thinking Challenges are designed to encourage students to use creative and critical thinking using a variety of thinking skills and strategies. These challenges are designed using Blooms Taxonomy, Tony Ryan’s Thinkers Keys and De Bono’s Thinking Hats, all of which are currently being used throughout Sherwood State School.

Thinking Challenges provide the opportunity for students to engage with their thinking outside of school. Students can chose a task (or three) to complete either in their own time or in class time if permitted. Each Thinking Challenge is broken up into a Prep-Year 2 and a Year 3-Year 6 sections that contain activities/questions that specifically target these age groups. They are released fortnightly and entries are displayed in the Office Foyer for the school community to view.
