SCHOOL TO RETURN ON MONDAY

Dear parents and carers,

I am very excited to report (thanks mostly to the hard work of volunteers, staff, parents, community members, and past pupils over the last three days) that we will be OPEN for all students on Monday 7 March! We will also be returning to our usual school hours for all year levels, from 8.45am - 3pm.

Whilst this is good news, I would like to remind everyone of some safety measures that we will all need to follow to allow our school to be back up and running:

- Enter and exit the school ONLY via the Sherwood Rd gates or via the McCulla St gate. Do not go on the grass until I notify families it is safe to do so.

- Our crossing supervisor will supervise the Hall St crossing, but families and students will then need to make their way down to the McCulla gate as the Hall St entrance will be blocked for some time due to ongoing QBuild work to repair, replace, and decontaminate areas most affected by floodwaters.

- Pick-up zone will be in use from tomorrow. Please DO NOT arrive to this zone earlier than 3.10pm as this will allow students a little extra time to make the longer journey to the pick-up zone. Remember it is a 2-minute zone and with most schools in our area back from Monday, traffic could become an issue.  Students are safe and supervised at pick-up zone, so please support us and delay your arrival time.

- We will not allow any students on our grassed areas during play times until we have been told it is safe to do so, so please prepare your children for this change.

- The junior playground is also not accessible as it needs to be cleaned and have soft fall replaced.

- Under the New Hall you will notice various items are out on tables to be dried. Items in this space will gradually be packed back into our storage room once dry and cleared of contamination. This may take several days.

- There will be no further swimming this term as the damage and clean-up required at our pool complex is extensive. All swimming fees paid will sit as a credit to family accounts to cover swimming in Semester 2.

If you have any concerns around the above adjustments, or if you have been severely flood-affected and may require additional support with uniforms of school supplies that may have been at home, please contact me via ahawk19@eq.edu.au.

Again, my sincerest THANK YOU to everyone who helped us get cleaned up; the volunteers at the working bees, those who baked and kept us fed and watered, the uniform collectors, those who brought in cleaning supplies, even those who brought us cold drinks or a coffee. It takes a village! And what a village we have.

Thank you for your ongoing support and please stay safe across the weekend.

Warm regards,

Amanda Hawkswell

Principal
