Sherwood State School is more than 155 years old, and our school buildings are very much in keeping with the heritage character of our local area. However, a surprise behind the heritage exteriors are modern learning spaces. All classrooms are air-conditioned and have interactive whiteboards. The school grounds are expansive, and encourage a diverse range of sports and imaginative play. There are also generous undercover play and eating areas. Sport facilities include:
25m pool (across the road on the corner of Hall Street & McCulla Street);
Cricket pitch;
Tennis courts;
Indoor netball, basketball and volleyball courts;
Soccer fields; and
Athletics oval.
Children love to play handball on the expansive, covered Quadrangle area. A nature area adjoins the school pool, and is regularly maintained by students of Friends of the Nature Area (FONA) Club.
We have two large hall spaces, a modern multipurpose "New Hall" (built in 2011), and a heritage style hall (commonly referred to as the "Old Hall" or "Activities Hall"). These spaces are used for our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), school assemblies, and community-based events.
Our Library was extended and refurbished by the Parents and Citizens Association in 2004, which is well-stocked with great student literature. This facility is also fully air conditioned thank you to the generous donation of the Siganto family.
