Sherwood's Instrumental Music Program is a comprehensive tuition program where students learn orchestral or band instruments. It provides an extra dimension to our School Music Program, ensuring educational outcomes are maximised for all students.
The program is organised in clusters with secondary schools, allowing schools to work together to provide continuity for students as they move from primary to secondary school.
This curriculum includes band and orchestral instruments, organised in families, as follows:
- Strings
- Woodwinds
- Brass
- Percussion
Students become musicians through participation in the Instrumental Music program which incorporates performance ensembles, small group lessons and home practice. All three course components are required for progress and achievement in the subject.
These programs are run by qualified instrumental teachers.
Students commence the strings program from Year 3 and Band/Percussion from Year 4. When students sign up to participate in the Instrumental Program, they do so with the understanding that it is a long term commitment that they need to see out for the duration of their primary schooling. Applications open at the end of Term 3.
