Swimming
Sherwood State School conduct half hour swimming lessons for each grade in term one and term four of the school year. The school pool is located across the road in the nature area which is also utilised by the Swim Academy for Learn to Swim sessions and the Sherwood Sharks for Friday night swimming club.
Your child's teacher will send out information in each relevant term and will have a copy of the swimming timetable if you have an enquiry.
The Sherwood State School swimming carnival is organised by the head of HPE and is held in term four of each year. There are two carnivals for the year catering for the seniors and juniors separately. The school awards age champions and often send swimmers onto regional and state swimming carnivals.
If you would like your child to be involved in swimming outside the class lessons, please visit www.theswimacademy.com.au/sherwood or www.sherwoodsharks.com
Representative Sport
Each year students 10 -12 years of age who have demonstrated exceptional sporting talent have the opportunity to trial for a place in an Eastern Taipans District Representative Team in their chosen sport. If selected students will represent the Eastern Taipans in a competition against teams from the four remaining districts, vying for the opportunity to make selection into the regional Met West team.
The Eastern Taipans offer trials for, but is not limited to, the following sports: netball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, touch football, rugby league, rugby union, squash, tennis, AFL, soccer, golf, softball, water polo and cricket.
The trialling process is highly competitive and we recommend only nominating if your child has experience playing at a competitive level.
Unfortunately, each school may only send 2 students per trial. This means that all final applicants are at the discretion of the PE teacher (Mr Simons). Please note, to aid in the decision making process we may contact a parent or carer and ask for a brief history of your child’s playing experience.
If your child is interested in nominating for an Eastern Taipans District Team they may see Mr Simon directly. Alternatively, you may wish to contact Mr Hass via email.
