About Sherwood State School
Sherwood State School Priorities: Intellectual Rigour and Differentiation
High Order Thinking is explicitly taught in all classrooms from Prep to Year 6. High-order thinking processes include comparing, evaluating, designing and analysing. Teaching children how to use these thinking processes to solve problems gives them a powerful intellectual advantage.
Differentiation is our second priority. All of our Sherwood teachers are adjusting their lessons and units of work to cater for the wide range of student abilities, learning styles and interests. In each of our classrooms teachers are using pre-assessment tools to gauge student knowledge and then planning to cater for these differences. There are opportunities for the class to work together as a whole, in small groups and for individuals to work independently according to their needs and abilities. Increasingly our students are able to work across classes in ‘like need’ groups.
